Prelude VTEC Bodywork restoration
June 2004
. I decided to finally get round to sorting out the
bodywork on my Prelude. Having found a reliable, local bodyshop, I entrusted my pride and joy
to
Lee's Auto
Refinishers, Unit 5, Murphys Yard, Railway Road, Idle, Bradford, BD10
9RJ Tel: 01274 613924. The job involves repainting the
whole body kit including the complete front and rear bumpers, the front wings
and the bonnet. Eight years of motoring and the low ride height of the car meant
the front bumper and wings were getting quite badly stone chipped. The rear spoiler had bubbled
quite
badly and the side skirts had several deep
scuffs from heels of people climbing in and out of the car. With the Japanese
Auto Extravaganza car show only weeks away, I wanted the car to be nice and
fresh.
TIP It is quite common for the rear spoiler to bubble on the Prelude. Lee thinks this is due to moisture absorbing into the fibreglass during the preparation before painting. He has deliberately sanded down the spoiler on mine dry, without water, to stop the fibreglass absorbing it up. We will see if his theory works out.
Lee has kindly taken some pictures of the work whilst in
progress.
